A
first class accordion player who is just as a ease on a five row chromatic
instrument as a piano accordion. A young man with a great selection of
classical and Scottish Music who has an amazing turn of speed. Paul
Chamberlain was born in the Scottish Borders in 1981. At the age of eight,
he began learning the Piano before taking up the Piano Accordion two years
later. Initially starting on a 48 bass Hohner accordion, he began lessons
with Paul Capaldi, before studying with the famous borders accordion
teacher, Bill Sharp. For several years he was the pianist for the Bill
Sharp Accordion Orchestra, which played at a large variety of events,
including two tours to France and playing out in Altlanta, USA at the
Stone Mountain Highland Games. In 1999 he began playing the free-bass
button accordion and now studies with Djordje Gajic. His instruments are a
Borsini Vienna K11 5 voice Piano accordion and a Bugari 2RC B-system
converter Bayan. In 1998 Paul was invited to play at a concert near
Blackpool with Professor Oleg Sharov from St. Petersburg, Russia. This
sparked off an interest in Russian music, and in April 1999 he was invited
out to Russia by Professor Sharov, to attend the Baltica Harmonica
festival in St. Petersburg where he played in two concerts and was awarded
the Honoured Diploma for his performances. In October 1999, he played in a
similar concert with Alexander Korbakov, also from St. Petersburg. In
November 2001, Paul is due to return to Russia to play at the St.
Petersburg accordion festival.
Another of Paul's interests is
composing - He published a book of his own Scottish compositions in 1997
called "The Eildon Collection". Paul is also a member of the
Robert Baird Scottish Dance Band.
