David
from Uxbridge in Middlesex is the son of the late Martin Lukins an
accordionist who became a household name during the late 50’s and early
60’s appearing regularly on popular national BBC radio programmes such as
“Workers Playtime”
and “Mid-day Music hall”.
David also appeared as a child star many times on television and radio
along with his famous father & mother Dorothy and sister Sandra
,once appearing for a season as a family act in the famous
“Moscow State Circus.”
David is a highly accomplished accordionist and has a
breathtaking and brilliant technique which makes him a true master of the
instrument, he is also an excellent exponent and talented xylophone
player.
He is a past All-Britain Accordion Champion (Senior
Solo & Jazz 1971) and in 1991 was honoured to represent the UK at
“The Recontre Europeane De
l’Accordeon” in
Chartres France where he also recorded for French National Radio.
Along with his wife Angie and son Andrew Lukins,
and coming from an accordion family he was bred to the instrument having
learned many of his fathers pieces from tapes and records as most had
never been written down.
David plays a variety of styles and his repertoire can
range from Jazz , Scottish, European and light classics to easy listening,
all played in his own unique and inimitable style.
