Alan spent his early living in the London area. He started learning the accordion at the age of 4, being taught by his parents (Arthur and Winifred Young). His father, was associated for many years with "Bell Accordions Ltd" in Surbiton. Due to Alan's rapid progression on the accordion, he started playing professionally at the age of 12, working mainly in dance halls. This was soon followed by regular music engagements working in London hotels, theatres, bier kellers and nightclubs. He is a very talented musician and this has given him a widely varied career. His studio work has included playing for both film soundtracks and documentaries, whilst his live gig work includes work on cruise ships, various holiday centres in the UK and several tours of Europe. Currently residing on the Isle of Wight, Alan can be found on the entertainment circuit in hotels on the Island playing a very wide variety of music from jazz; continental to sing-a-long etc., both on accordion and keyboards. Alan is talents also an excellent accordion tuner and repairer.
